The Perks of Being A Wallflower was one of those books that everyone seemed to have read apart from me. It sat on my TBR shelf for about two months before I eventually read it – and I am so glad I did.

It’s written in epistolary form, composed entirely of letters addressed to an unknown person simply referred to as ‘Friend’. I had read books in epistolary form before, mostly taking the form of a diary, but this was the first one I’d read when it was just letters. This fact alone is something that makes it stand out from the rest of the coming-of-age novels in the YA world – it’s different.
